27 Rajab 2026: 7 Powerful Lessons from Israa & Miraj for Your Faith

Throughout the year, some days hold significant importance in the Islamic calendar; one of them is 27 Rajab 2026. The date when the earth was connected to heaven. It is the night of the miraculous ascension, Isra & Miraj.

This event is special for every Muslim and carries many lessons that strengthen faith and root it deeply in the heart. And because Muslimi Academy is keen on spreading Islamic knowledge all over the world, this article is here to reveal the secrets of this extraordinary journey and the lessons beyond it. Let’s get started.

What is Israa & Miraj?

Israa & Miraj is a miraculous journey that happened in the sacred month of Rajab. Through which the Prophet Muhammad was taken from Makkah to Jerusalem (Israa) and then ascended to the heavens, where he saw the previous Prophets and received divine commandments. The most significant outcome for the Islamic Ummah is the commandment of the 5 daily prayers.

Al-Israa

It is the night journey from Al-Masjid Al-haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa by Al-Buraq. There, the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, led all the prophets in prayer, which indicates the universality of his message.

“سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِ هِ لَيْلًا مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ  إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا ۚ إِنَّهُ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ”

“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

(Surah Al-Isra’:1)

Al-Miraj

It is the second part of the journey. It is the miraculous ascent from Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa to the sky. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, ascended through each heaven and met a prophet on every one. He met:

  • The prophet Adam (1st heaven)
  • The Prophet Eisa and Yahya (2nd heaven)
  • The prophet Yusuf (3rd heaven)
  • The Prophet Idris (4th heaven)
  • The Prophet Harun (5th heaven)
  • The Prophet Musa (6th heaven)
  • The Prophet Ibrahim (7th heaven)

He also reached Sidrat Al-Muntaha, the place where no creature can pass. He also witnessed Paradise, Hell, the rewards, and punishments that are waiting for people based on their deeds. This highlights the Prophet Muhammad’s great status, the connection between all prophets and their messages, and Allah’s special love for him, which is mentioned in the Holy Quran:

And he certainly saw him in another descent, at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, near it is the Garden of Refuge – when there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. He certainly saw the greatest signs of his Lord.”

(Surah An-Najm:13–18)

What is the Islamic significance of Israa & Miraj?

This event took place after a year full of sadness in the prophet Muhammad’s life; it is called the year of sorrow because of the plenty of sad events that happened during it. In this year, the prophet Muhammad lost his wife Khadija and his supporting uncle Abu Talib, in addition to the intense rejection by the Quraysh unbelievers of his message. It was a year when he, peace be upon him, faced many hardships that made him feel lonely and feared.

And suddenly, during all these sad events, Allah Almighty grants his messenger an extraordinary event that reaffirms his faith and prophethood. It is also a test that discriminates between true believers and false ones. Therefore, this journey represents a source of spiritual inspiration and guidance for all Muslims, and makes them feel that Allah’s companionship is always with them.

7 Powerful Lessons from Al Israa & Miraj Journey

The night journey in Islam, Israa & Miraj, carries several moral and spiritual lessons that represent a practical guide for every Muslim during hard moments.

1- Believe in Allah’s ultimate power

The event is beyond our imagination. The journey from Makkah to Jerusalem takes more than 2 hours with modern transportation. But, nothing is impossible with Allah, He Almighty has the ultimate power and knowledge to control everything.

2- Patience and Reassurance during Hardships

Trusting in Allah and being sure of his wisdom is one of the most important lessons of the event of Israa & Miraj. When we recall how the Prophet Muhammad faced adversity and Allah granted him, we feel reassured and appreciate the significance of patience in Islam.

3- The Connection Between Prophets

The leading of the previous prophet in a prayer symbolizes the unity and continuity of Allah’s message across time. Islam is an affirmation of the monotheism concept that is delivered by all prophets.

4- The Importance of the Five Prayers

Allah gifted us the five prayers in this exceptional night, Miraj Night. This signifies the importance of prayers and how Allah, the most merciful, understands human abilities. As narrated by Anas Ibn Malik I’m the Hadith of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: On the night of my Isra (Night Journey), fifty prayers were made obligatory upon me. I kept returning to my Lord, asking for a reduction until He said, ‘O Muhammad, they are five prayers every day and night, but each prayer counts as ten, so that makes fifty prayers.’”

5- Never Lose Hope in Allah’s Mercy

The Israa & Miraj journey resulted in reducing the number of daily obligatory prayers from fifty to only five, which highlights Allah’s compassion and mercy. This also reminds us that with every hardship, there is ease.

“فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا. إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا”

“For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.“ Surah (Ash-Sharh:6)

6- True Friendship Stands Unshaken

When all people were shocked and didn’t believe what happened, but only his noble friend Abu Bakr said upon hearing, “I believe”, he didn’t ask or have doubts. His action was a great support for his friend, and he showed an ideal model of true friendship. He also showed a clear belief in Allah and his messenger, even without witnessing.

7- A Great Test of Faith

The miraculous journey of Israa & Miraj represents a great test of faith for believers. Actually, it is a discrimination between true believers and others. It is a challenge to believe in Allah’s ultimate power with devotion and true acceptance without seeing by ourselves. And usually, the greater the test, the greater the reward. Testing faith is highlighted in the Holy Quran where Allah says:

“أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ”

“Do people think they will be left alone after saying ‘We believe’ without being put to the test?”

(Al-‘Ankabut: 2)
